    Snap, Crackle, POP!

FIVE, yes FIVE big injuries to our players. Let me break it down.

#1 RP Julian Tavarez - He went down for 28 long, hard days and he'll return next game thankfully. One of our better relief pitchers sadly.

#2 SP Jason Bere - 3 weeks, his ERA is shotty but 3 weeks puts a big hurt on us and we had to stick Rich Hill in.

#3 Carlos Zambrano - Another big hurt, he went down for a bit over 2 weeks and is returning next game. These damn injuries.

#4 RP Michael Wuertz - A blooming prospect gone for 7 weeks. 35 days and he's back, what is this?

#5 SP Mark Prior - After Big Z went down we had to bring in Mark Prior and guess what? He got injured and he's going to be out for 7 days.

... Psh, and I thought last month was bad. May sucks

Kevin Tapani went on and off on injuries as well but he's back now. The ONLY good thing that came out of this was our lineup was uninjured.

Lets look at our pitching. Tapani is becoming a real leader with a 3.79 ERA wielding a 4-2 record. He's a real treasure to have on the team. Big Z on the other hand, a 4.99 ERA, we're hoping he can come back and give us more production but I think the injuries really hurt him. Jason Bere didn't give us much production and we feel he's not giving it his best shot. No worries, Jon Lieber saves the day with a 3.86 ERA. ONLY 13 BBs, that's fantastic. Both him & Tapani are wizards at limiting walks. But both are over 30 and Tap is 37 years old. Now the big problem, Donovan Osborne has a 6.56 ERA!!!! Thats nuts and we have no choice but to keep him. We want Rich Hill & Prior to keep developing so next season we'll have a beast rotation.

Lets take a look at our bats shall we? We have cash money leading off, CLIFF FLOYD! A .325 average, 4 homers, 4 stolen bases. We struck gold when we traded Cliff Floyd, we struck Cubbie gold. Jose Vidro is GOD! A .335 average, I thought he would maintain a .290 average, he proved me wrong. He has 7 homers and 37 RBIs to add. SAMMMMMMMY! I love Sammy Sosa, he may have taken 'roids, I don't care. SAMMY! 18 smackaroonies AND a .299 average. He leads the league in homers and keeps up a good batting average. Lets not forget he leads the league in RBIs as well, I think we have a potential MVP award winner right here! Sammy also hit number 400! Chasing Hank! Too carried away with Sammy forgot to praise Mueller. He was a late FA acquistion, batting at a .324 but he can't hit a homer that well. Rondell White & Todd Hundley are fantastic both sporting a batting average around .290 and both have 10 homers. The only problem is Ron Coomer who has a batting average under .270, that sucks.

    And our standings ...

    KEY GAMES:

    Reds 11, Cubs 9
    - We lose all thanks to Bere who gave up 8 runs. Jose Vidro came up giant though with 6 RBIs but 2 errors for both sides led to runs.
    5.2.01

    Brewers 7, Cubs 8
    - Extra innings, extra winnings! Going into the eleventh we were batting last. Vidro extended a single into a double, Julio Z hit a sharp grounder advancing Vidro to third and we had Slammin' Sammy. He whacked a single into left field and we won it on a walk-off single, BABY!
    5.5.01

    Cubs 6, Cardinals 5
    - More extras! And more winnings! Guess who, that's right SLAMMIN' SAMMY! Leading off the top of the tenth Sammy tossed one up and we got the lead. Mahay pitched a brilliant bottom half and we ran away thanks to Sosa.
    5.7.01

    Cubs 3, Brewers 0
    - Big bad, Kevin Tapani! Can't go wrong here, he allowed 6 hits in 8 innings of play leading to Joe finishing it off. All runs came off homers from Floyd, Sammy, and Cabby's bat.
    5.17.01

    D-Rays 19, Cubs 18
    - An absolute roller coaster ride. The best game of the season, this will go down in history. 37 combined runs, who would've thunk. Vidro, White, Hundley, and Coomer slammed homers. Osborne and Mahay gave up 13 combined runs. In the ninth, Coomer hit a 3-run home run but we couldn't manufacture that one run. Fred McGriff had 7 ribbies, what a stud. I WANT HIM!
    5.28.01

Did you happen to notice what rank you were in medical spending? It seems that in my game, injuries occur when your rank changes, so if the AI decides to outspend you, you get hit with an injury.

    Re: 65-97, Come On Cubs!

    THE DRAFT!

Cubbies' losing record is actually good in this situation. We have the FIRST OVERALL PICK in the 2001 draft, YEAH BOY!

My scouts brought me this information:

RP Huston Street - The best player in the draft, he's MLB ready for god sakes and he can rally with the big guys but he's not the best prospect in the draft. He'll be good, but not Rivera good.

SP Justin Verlander - Fantastic starter in the draft who we absolutely love. But I think we'll hold off on him.

CF Chris Young - This guy is amazing, and could end up being a key piece to us with the aging outfielders, very high on our radar.

3B Miguel Cabrera - Also high on our radar but I think we may be able to hold off and get a third basemen next year since Mueller is only still 30.

C Russell Martin - He's also real big on our radar, he's probably one of our main targets with his skill and ability.

NOW, WITH THE FIRST OVERALL PICK IN THE 2001 MLB AMATEUR DRAFT, THE CHICAGO CUBS DRAFT ...

    THIRD BASEMEN ... MIGUEL CABRERAAAA!

#2 PHI - SP Cole Hamels
#3 MON - RP Huston Street
#4 MIN - SP Francisco Liriano
#5 PIT - SP Zach Duke

    REST OF OUR PICKS:

Second Round - 1B Jeff Clement - We need depth, and I think Clement can do the job for us. Pitching is the last thing on our mind

Third Round - SP Matt Albers - We feel we needed a pitcher and he's very good, one of the better pitchers out there.

Fourth Round - RP Gregg Wolf - A rascal, 17 and he's going to be Rivera ready soon. The guy racks up saves like Hugh Hefner racks up women (nice metaphor AY?)

Fifth Round - SS Alberto Gonzalez - Just a late round pick, could end becoming pretty nice, good in the pinch.

Sixth Round - C John Teutsch - We needed somewhat of a catcher, ehh Johnny over here is decent.

I think we hit the jackpot, MIGGY! JEFFY! MATTY! AND GREGGY! LETS NOT FORGET ALBERTYYY! AND JOHNNY! YAY!

It mimicked historical draft, not sure why but it did. So M's draft Rowland-Smith, Mark Low, and Rene Rivera

I don't really care, its not bad if they mimic the drafts but i'll change it because there were too many high picks available for me

    Re: 65-97, Come On Cubs!

    Fourth Place...

(OOPSIE DOOPSIE! I accidentally simmed two months so we'll go more in depth this time around, sorry guys. I simmed until deadline so next post is deadline crap here we go.)

We slipped back in the rankings hitting fourth place. Our pitching staff shot up their ERAs and that's the only reason. Our bats were off the charts as usual. Worst of all, a reliever leads us in wins >.> 2 months to go, we're 8.5 back in our division. 9.5 back in wild card, we'll have to prep for next year.

Our pitching is falling apart. Let's start with Kevin "Tap" Tapani. He started off the season ace ready and continued his performance through May but when summer days came, he fell apart. His ERA shot up from the mid-3s to the high 4s and currently stands at 4.74. With a record at 6-6 even, he's really making me regret attempting to trade him. Next we have Jason "Big Bear" Bere, but he's certainly not looking so big right now. With a 5.55 ERA and a 4-5 record we really don't want to keep him for 2 more years. He's really up for grabs, maybe if he could keep his walks under control he'd be staying for the ride. Jon "Roller coaster" Lieber, he's been back and forth for us all year. He starts off a slow outsider and then BAM! he leads the team in ERA now he's back where he started. A 4.22 ERA but his outstanding K/BB ratio is off the charts and he stand 7-5. Jon's fantastic and we want him here for as long as possible. Leading us is rookie, Carlos "BIG Z" Zambrano, what stud muffin. Only 20 and leading us with a 3.91 ERA, he went from number 2 to a 5 ERA to an ace for us. The only big problem is his walks, if his ERA skyrockets we'll have to send him for a trip to triple A but he's good where he is for now. Last and sadly least, Donovan "Wizard of Os" Osborne, but he's the wizard of loser ville. The worst starter, a 5.63 ERA and suffered 2, two week injuries during June & July. He MUST go and is stinking it up. Borowski & Ohman are doing very well in the 'pen.

The goodies! Our big fat bats! Lets start off with leadoff man, Cliff FLOYD! Still cranking that ball and hitting well with a .307 average and 10 homers to boot. We are saddened that we must demote him to another slot in the rotation. Next we have Jose Vidro, a beast who leads us with a .321 batting average and crushes the ball, 13 homers. Now, there's Bill "The Muel" MUELLERRRR! Contact hitting stud, a .302 BA and .391 OBP. He's been nothing short of spectacular this year. How could we forget SLAMMING SAMMMMY SOSA! Still slugging with 27 big ones and 91 ribbies, this guy is in line to beat Hammerin' Hank's record. Rondell White has surprised us all this year batting a .300 clip and smacking 20 homers. He hasn't done this good since 1998 with the Expos. Then we have the back three, Todd Hundley, Orlando Cabrera, and Ron Coomer. All hitting decently but not fantastic. Hundley has 17 long balls but the rest just sit there and chip in every now and then. The biggest surprise off the bench is Eric Young with a .355 average in 166 ABs with 10 stolen bases. He will be replacing Orlando Cabrera for the rest of August and will take over as leadoff.

    And our standings ...

    CALENDER:

Sorry but I'm not writing it all out, here's some screenshots though :/

    Re: 65-97, Come On Cubs!

CUBS TRADE FOR RYAN KLESKO AT DEADLINE

We made a big trade at deadline that will fill the gap at first and help take good prospects away. We needed something other than Ron Coomer so we turned to trading. We had already hit the bigtime on trading but we wanted to cap it off with a blast (yeah I know a lot of big trades, sorry but I need to turn the Cubs into a playoff team but I promise not as many big trades will be made next year). We received an offer from the Padres GM. It started off with:

    Padres Receive:

    RF Sam Fuld
    SP Rocky Cherry
    LF Gary Matthews

    Cubs Receive:

    1B Ryan Klesko

We denied them and said forget about it but they were willing to talk so we did. I asked for a little more and then we got Xavier Nady into the mix but he demanded more. I tossed in Ron Coomer and he was beginning to like it but I was still feeling shorthanded. I said I'd add Donovan Osborne and he practically through a tantrum. There was no way he was letting Osborne onto his team so I calmed him down. I told him to replace Nady with the lesser prospect, Shane Victorino and he asked for some money since he really didn't prefer taking Coomer or Osborne at their ages. We sent over $1.5 mil with checks and he accepted. I looked at our losses, a future starting outfielder, a future number 2, a young outfielder who can play well, but I looked at our gains. Losing Osborne and Coomer is great and to boot we got a top first basemen along with a good prospect outfielder so we wouldn't be shorthanded. After chatting a bit more we came up with this bad boy.

    Padres Receive:

    RF Sam Fuld
    SP Rocky Cherry
    LF Gary Matthews
    1B Ron Coomer
    SP Donovan Osborne
    $1.5 million dollars

    Cubs Receive:

    1B Ryan Klesko
    CF Shane Victorino

I accepted right off the bat and he nodded his head. The only problem is the age of Ryan Klesko, 30 years of age and a $3.55 mil salary. But he was an all-star this year and we don't have many of those. WELCOME TO THE WINDY CITY MR. KLESKO!

We also made a small trade that was practically mislooked with all the hype of Ryan Klesko.

    Rangers Receive:

    2B Jason Smith
    RP Michael Wuertz

    Cubs Receive:

    CL Francisco Cordero

We needed a shutdown relief pitcher that could eat up late innings and Cordero is our man.
